NLG deploys machine translation

NLG GmbH has established a partnership with Asia Online in order to deploy and implement customized Machine Translation (MT) engines in multiple languages for a major automotive client.

This cooperation should also be seen as a first step towards a systematic approach of MT using Asia Online’s Language Studio™ technology wherever it makes sense in order to achieve significant benefits for existing and new clients such as:

  • Cost reduction
  • Shorter turnaround time for high volume technical content
  • Same level of quality through experienced and competent post editors
  • Consistent use of terminology

“We strongly believe that, driven by the market, within the next 3 to 4 years MT will be the future of translation for many industries and domains. With this in mind we have chosen Asia Online as our partner. Asia Online is the leading provider of Statistical Machine Translation solutions today and will bring our company to the next level” said Michael Oettli, Managing Director at NLG.

Through an extended corpus of TM data and terminology, through advanced clean up of data as well as through continuous feedback and training, the expected MT output from domain-specific MT engines is expected to not only be of good quality but also to significantly improve over time, as this is the basic concept Asia Online is applying. MT is replacing the human translation process, while a human post editing step will always be applied in order to meet and in some cases even exceed the current quality level.
